- Email Address — Collected during onboarding. Used solely for potential future product communications. Your email is sent to our server and is not linked to any other data we store.
- Feedback Messages — If you choose to submit feedback through the app, your message and associated email address are uploaded to our server to help us improve the app.
Information Stored Locally on Your Device
The following data is stored exclusively on your device and is never transmitted to our servers:
- Gambling-free start date — Used to calculate your gamble-free counter and estimated savings.
- Gambling frequency and average spending — Used to estimate money saved.
- Anchor contact — The name and phone number of your chosen accountability contact.
- Blocked app selections — Your selected apps and categories to block, managed through Apple's Screen Time framework.
- Blocked website selections — Your selected gambling domains to block across browsers.
- Check-in history and streak data — Your daily check-in responses.
- App preferences and settings — Your in-app configuration choices.
Information Collected Automatically
- Analytics Data — We use Firebase Analytics to collect anonymous usage data such as app opens, feature usage, and general interaction patterns. This data is aggregated and does not personally identify you.
- Crash Reports — We use Firebase Crashlytics to collect anonymous crash reports to help us identify and fix bugs. Crash data does not contain personally identifiable information.
How We Use Your Information
- Email Address — For potential future product updates or communications. We do not sell or share your email with third parties for marketing purposes.
- Feedback — To understand user needs and improve the app experience.
- Analytics & Crash Data — To improve app performance, fix bugs, and understand how features are used.
- Local Data — All locally stored data is used exclusively to provide app functionality (blocking, counter, savings tracking, check-ins, and accountability features).
Apple Screen Time & Family Controls
Anchor uses Apple's Family Controls and Managed Settings frameworks to block gambling apps and websites. This requires your explicit authorization through Apple's Screen Time system. The specific apps and categories you choose to block are managed entirely by Apple's framework and are stored on your device. We do not have access to a list of apps installed on your device — Apple's framework handles app selection privately.
Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties, except:
- Firebase (Google) — We use Firebase services (Firestore, Analytics, Crashlytics) for data storage, analytics, and crash reporting. Firebase processes data according to Google's Privacy Policy.
Data Retention
- Email and feedback stored on our servers are retained indefinitely for product improvement purposes.
- Local data on your device exists as long as the app is installed. You can delete all local data at any time using the "Reset All Data" option in the app's Profile section.
- Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data from your device.
Data Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your information. Local data is stored in your device's sandboxed storage. Data transmitted to our servers uses industry-standard encryption (HTTPS/TLS).
Children's Privacy
Anchor is not intended for use by children under the age of 17. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The app's content and purpose are designed for adults seeking help with gambling habits.
Your Rights and Choices
- Delete Local Data — Use "Reset All Data" in the app's Profile section to erase all locally stored information.
- Uninstall — Removing the app deletes all local data.
- Email Deletion — To request deletion of your email from our servers, contact us at the email below.
- Opt Out of Analytics — You can limit analytics collection by disabling analytics in your device's privacy settings.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this document. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
